March update and some learning days from LILAC

Thanks for bearing with us, folks. Since our last email when we had just discovered the insane cost of building new dwellings post-pandemic, we've had to go back and start researching other options, like modular buildings, pre-existing flats/groups of houses, and converting old buildings into dwellings. These options may not be as perfect as being able to build something to our co-housing dream specifications, but we hope that we can find a solution that still keeps the heart and ideals of community living. Compromise has always been something we expected, and it starts right now. We have had some answers to a couple of legal questions that we've been waiting for, so we plan to set up our legal entity (a Co-operative Society) in the next few months now we know we are OK to go ahead. We also plan on shifting from our temporary gmail address to a proper domain. At the moment about 10% of these emails are never delivered, which is very likely because the @gmail is flagged as spam at the server level. Thank you to one of our subscribers who has volunteered their time to set this up for us. <3 While I've got you, I wanted to let you know about LILAC's Learning Days that are planned for this year. A few of us attended the Community and the Finance ones last year. They were a great way to see and learn from a real co-housing project who are ten+ years into living together in Leeds. If you are interested in co-housing in general, pop along on the 5th April. Tickets are available here. We don't have a plan for the rescheduled Gathering II yet, but once we have a better idea of where we are going and how we think we are going to get there we'll let you know. Hello! I know it's short notice but I have just been alerted to this event which you may be interested in. Leeds Community Homes are one of the organisations we work with, and this will be a good intro into the concept of community-led housing (including co-housing) and an introduction to some of the existing housing projects in Yorkshire. We hope you had a good Christmas and New Year, so it's time for Gathering II, Spring 2025! We have booked a space at LILAC co-housing in Leeds, the same venue as last time.The format will be broadly similar too: a tour of LILAC, a presentation and Q&A session in their common lounge, followed by games in their common room.
